It is believed that William Wood was killed by three men. Charles TAYLOR who was arrested in Macclesfield two days later, and committed suicide in goal. Joseph DALE, who was arrested three weeks later, and executed in Chester Goal on 21 April 1824. PLATT, who was not caught. |
The above view from the memorial looks over Diglee towards Furness Vale in the bottom of the valley. For 650 years the river Goyt, hidden by trees in the bottom of the valley, formed the boundary between Cheshire on this side of the river, and Derbyshire on the other side. In 1936 the county boundary moved uphill. It now passes close by this memorial. Thus all the land in this view is now in Derbyshire. |
