Description
A delicately carved stone column,
erected as a memorial to those who fell in the first world war
and as a thanksgiving for those who returned.
There are no names on this memorial,
however the Newton men who fell in the first world war
are included on the memorial in Hyde Town Tall.
Inscription
To the Glory of God and in affectionate memory or the men of Newton
who gave their lives for their country and the cause of liberty
in the Great War
1914 - 1919.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends".
In thanksgiving for the Sacrifice of Parents, Wives, and Relatives of the fallen
and for the safe return of those who have been spared.
Subscribed for and erected by the inhabitants of Newton.
