Many of the rescuers had their lives changed as a result of the experience.
Twelve survivors were thrown clear or extracted by rescuers who managed to clamber into the crumpled wreckage before a fuel fire caught hold. The remaining seventy-two passengers and crew perished.
The crash occured at 10 a.m. in the middle of a densely populated area. It is a miracle that no-one on the ground was killed.
